Look Back in Anger

(The sidewalk outside a large, semi-urban Jewel. Night. The sidewalk is dimly lit by the bright lights through the store windows. Woman #1 seems to be homeless, and is surrounded by bags of unidentified possessions. We know she is homeless because she is selling Streetwise. Woman #2 is a student on a blue bicycle.)

Woman #2: (slowing bicycle as she approaches Woman #1)
Woman #1: Streetwise! (beat)
Woman #2: (while passing) Oh, sorry, I just didn't want to hit you. (exits)

This is our youth!

(A dorm room, littered with Dell computers and empty juice containers. There is a mouse cage, but it is empty, suggesting that the mouse has escaped. Jill, 20, sits at her computer as Tonya, 19, and blonde, rises from her seat and puts on an orange backpack.)

Jill: Where are you going?
Tonya: Class.
Jill: Oh. That sucks.
Tonya: See you later. (Tonya exits.)
